As far as the purple flower, I think the picture is this one. I was playing in Photoshop with desaturating everything but the subject and thought it came out ok. According to my eyes, I think the flower is actually blue.

HDR technique in Photomatix Pro. Its the same kind of technique used in the Golden Gate Bridge shot.
