Automattic should buy FeedLounge

I’ve always thought that a blog service should be tied hand in hand with a feed reading service.  Based on how well Wordpress.com and Akismet have done and how beautiful FeedLounge’s UI is I see these two as a very good fit.  But then of course, this is just my opinion and what does that matter in the grand scheme of things…

Automattic has figured out how to scale a service and keep it running, which was the #1 problem with FeedLounge and why I stopped using it.  Plus Automattic has the funding to keep the service going and growing, and they know how to run open source projects, if the FL code was ever cleaned up enough and then put out into the wild.  The most interesting thing is that Scott said that the next version of FL was to be db agnostic, something that Wordpress hasn’t done in core and many user’s would be extremely happy if they had a db choice.

Here’s to hoping that FeedLounge does survive.  It was a great service when it was reliable, which a team of people should be able to make happen and grow.  There still is a laundry list of features that the FL user’s want to see, and I’d add to that list that Automattic take over the service.

Here come the tags

New submissions into trunk today for tagging built into Wordpress.  Looks simple so far, only thing I’m hoping is that you can keep tags and categories separate.  Currently, when clicking on a tag link, you get brought into a link structure that includes “category” in it.

Here are the initial submissions:
